First BB cushions, then CC cushions and now SUN CUSHIONS. I stumbled upon one few months ago and was totally intrigued by it. Later, I realised that every brand is slowly releasing its own sun cushion. This is what happened when bb cushions were made.
What is a sun cushion you may ask:
Well as the name suggests, a sun cushion is a sunblock that is placed in a compact. Instead of pressing a tube to using a stick, you use a puff to apply it to your skin. It protects your skin from UV rays and generally moisturises your skin as well.
Comparing sun cushions with other sunscreens
If you compare a sun cushion to a liquid sunscreen, the major difference would be the texture. Liquid sunscreens are relatively richer in texture, while sun cushions are a lot lighter.

Today I will be reviewing Tony Moly’s UV Master Mild Sun Cushion.

It is 13-gram cushion which has SPF 50+ and PA++++. The more plus signs there are the more protection there is from UVA rays. Earlier PA+++ used to be the highest grade of UVA protection, but now some countries, like Japan, are releasing products with PA ++++. The more protection we get the better, right?
It comes in a yellow compact, perfect to set the mood for summer. It is rated Green by EWG (The Environmental Working Group). It contains vitamin complex, water lily extract and moisture soothing complex to give rich moisture supply and soothing care.
If you have used any form of cushion before, then you should be no stranger to the design of the compact. Once you open it, there is a mirror of course, the top compartment has your puff and the main sunblock is under. It is white in color but it absorbs smoothly into your skin, leaving no color behind.
Cost: HKD 49 (on sale when purchased)

How to use it?
Take the amount needed with the puff provided and evenly apply on your face. Gently pat your skin after.
My thoughts:
It’s a wonderful sunscreen that sinks immediately into your skin upon application. I love it especially because your face does not feel greasy like how it does when you apply other liquid-based sunscreens. There is no white residue after application and I had no heavy feeling. Since I am so used to having that heavy feeling on my skin when applying sunscreen, it took me some time to get used to feeling nothing. To be honest, at first I even doubted if there was any sunscreen on my face at all.
Another great thing about this is the compact is sleek which makes it easier to carry.
Why would I go for a sun cushion than other forms of sunblock?
Using sun cushions is much more hygienic than using a stick or a liquid sunscreen as you only take out the desired amount using a puff, not your hands.
Having a puff makes the application process a lot easier and quicker
Most sun cushions have moisturising or soothing elements
The texture is a lot lighter
Easier to carry
You don’t need to look for a mirror when applying as it already has one for you
